New Knifemaking Workshop for CNC

On November 6-9, Tormach is offering something we think is absolutely unique—a specialty workshop taught by knifemaking experts John and Erik of Grimsmo Knives. Called “CNC for Knifemakers,” the 3.5 day class will be held in the Tormach workshop in Madison, Wisconsin.  Open to the first ten registrants, students will gain practical experience in CNC programming, machine control, and machining as they build The Tor, a fixed blade hunting knife designed specifically for the class (Tor is short for Tormach). Known for their popular “Knifemaking Tuesday” series on YouTube, John and Erik have been video documenting their journey making custom knives using a Tormach PCNC 1100. Students will leave the class with CNC techniques geared towards the craft of making high-end custom knives. [singlepic id=504 w=320 h=240 float=center]   Tormach will provide the raw materials to make one complete knife which students will take with them upon the completion of the course.

Day 1: Students will spend the day immersed in machining instruction and making a pair of handles for their knife.

Day 2: After the knife blades are hard-milled on day two, students will learn to use the Mach3 engraving wizard to engrave their name into the blade.

Day 3: This day will be spent finishing and assembling the knives, sharpening the blade, and answering student questions.

Day 4: The morning of day four will be spent discussing other knife designs, folding pocket knives, and learning how students can transfer PCNC skills to their own projects.

Tuition for the class is $1495 and includes lunch and materials to make The Tor. But wait, there’s more: students who complete the course will receive a coupon for a 20% discount ($200.00 max) redeemable for a future purchase of a Tormach PCNC or any accessories available at our e-store.
