Tormach Continues to Spread the Personal CNC Influence

Many know of John Saunders (aka NYC CNC) and John Grimsmo (of Grimsmo Knives) and the work that they have done with their Tormach machines. Now, we’re introducing Robert Cowan. With a background in engineering, Robert is involved in the maker community and has previously used TTS tools on his home-made CNC. Now, he has a PCNC 440, and we can’t wait to see what he does with it.

A Packed House at #Tormach2015

Tormach’s 2015 open house (#Tormach2015) went off with resounding success. Tormach’s technical staff spent the day giving seminars and presentations on various aspects of the Tormach machinery, and guests mulled through an Open House Only Sale. John Grimsmo and John Saunders made an appearance, and gave a joint presentation discussing how they succeed in their businesses with their Tormach machine tools. Grimsmo also gave a talk on knife-making and the challenges he’s encountered while producing high-end blades. Since every qualified Tormach purchase now comes with a free, year-long seat of Fusion 360, Autodesk provided a hands-on walkthrough of their software. Curt Chan and Jeremy Stadtmueller took the time to show several interested Tormach users, and potential users, how Autodesk’s CAD/CAM package works with the PCNC series mills. Over 200 guests made domestic, national, and even international trips to see what the world of personal CNC is all about. Needless to say, there was a lot going on around Tormach, and we’re interested to know what you thought. If you attended this year, visit our 2015 Open House Recap page, and let us know what worked, what didn’t, and what you’d like to see in the future. If you didn’t make it to Wisconsin this year, let us know what you’d like to see if you were to make the trip.

Tormach's Second Annual Open House Just Hours Away

Our second annual open house opens tomorrow, bright and early at 8:30. We were hoping to have 150 visitors registered before Saturday, instead we managed 192! There is still room, so RSVP and help us reach 200. Last year’s first annual open house was a fantastic success, but this year we’re looking to set the bar higher with seminars on everything from CAM and workholding to small business applications for Tormach equipment. We’ve already got folks flying in to Waunakee, WI from all over the country, including John Grimsmo from Grimsmo Knives and John Saunders from NYC CNC. The YouTube celebrities will be discussing how they both use Tormach machines within their small businesses Now that we’ve established a partnership with Autodesk, they’re stopping by to give a couple demos and a hands-on walkthrough of Fusion 360 – that’s not to mention the swag that they will be handing out. Our machinists love the Fusion 360 swag. From 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, the day will be packed with seminars and classes, as well as a demo of our new high-speed spindle. We’ll also be holding a cash-and-carry sale. We’ve got a room full of tool holders, spindle lights, cutting tools, and many other accessories just waiting to go home with new owners. After the day of classes and seminars, we'll be holding a reception at Lucky's Bar and Grill Waunakee, where guests can chat with our machinists and engineers. RSVP to make a visit to Tormach, and help us get over 200 Tormach enthusiasts gathered in one spot!

New Knifemaking Workshop for CNC

On November 6-9, Tormach is offering something we think is absolutely unique—a specialty workshop taught by knifemaking experts John and Erik of Grimsmo Knives. Called “CNC for Knifemakers,” the 3.5 day class will be held in the Tormach workshop in Madison, Wisconsin.  Open to the first ten registrants, students will gain practical experience in CNC programming, machine control, and machining as they build The Tor, a fixed blade hunting knife designed specifically for the class (Tor is short for Tormach). Known for their popular “Knifemaking Tuesday” series on YouTube, John and Erik have been video documenting their journey making custom knives using a Tormach PCNC 1100. Students will leave the class with CNC techniques geared towards the craft of making high-end custom knives. [singlepic id=504 w=320 h=240 float=center]   Tormach will provide the raw materials to make one complete knife which students will take with them upon the completion of the course.
